If you have an iPhone or Android device, then chances are you’ve heard of Lookout. If not, then you might want to know more about this security app. With 20 million users in 170 countries worldwide, Lookout protects mobile phones from viruses, malware, and spyware. It even locates and locks lost devices.
Based in San Francisco, California, Lookout Mobile Security was founded by John Hering, James Burgess, and Kevin Mahaffrey. The three mobile security researchers met at the University of Southern California and became friends over a common love for technology. After discovering a security flaw in Bluetooth and failing to get the attention of phone manufacturers, the group headed to the Academy Awards, where they identified all the vulnerable celebrity phones on the red carpet. The stunt led them to be featured on the New York Times, officially putting them on the map.
Recently, the three founders of Lookout were named to Inc. Magazine’s 2012 30 Under 30 list.
