Based in Troy, New York, 1st Playable Productions (1P) is a small, independent game development studio that makes handheld games for kids and educational games for all ages. 1P focuses on fun and great-looking games that stimulate, entertain, and create a positive impact. Composed of a passionate team with years of experience working on top titles and a track record of delivering results on time, 1P is a licensed developer for Leapfrog, Nintendo 3DS and DS, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Android, iOS, and other embedded game platforms. The studio has put out over 50 games across various genres and platforms to date. 1P makes both entertainment and educational games, believing both domains can learn from each other.

As a small and creatively focused studio, 1st Playable Productions is able to further the craftsmanship and mentoring needed to produce unique and distinctive games. The company emphasizes collaborative development and believes size does not matter in making a big and lasting impact on the industry and community. All 1P employees volunteer time and energy for community and educational organizations, as well as help inspire the next generation of game developers by mentoring students, launching after school programs, working with local schools to incorporate internship programs, organizing game jams, volunteering for industry organizations, and more.

In July of 2013, 1P became the first video game developer in the United States and the first company in New York’s Tech Valley to become a certified B Corporation.

1st Playable Productions was founded by CEO Tobi Saulnier, a veteran of both handheld and console games. At 1P, she oversees daily company operations and all aspects of product development. Before founding the studio, she oversaw product development at Vicarious Visions and was responsible for delivering more than 60 game titles. Saulnier holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
