Annie’s Nannies is Seattle’s original full-service nanny agency, founded in 1984 by Annie Davis. With two grown children of her own and a grandchild on the way in the ’80s, Davis recognized a need for a better way to match qualified nannies with parents needing childcare. She started Annie’s Nannies in a spare bedroom of the house she still shares with her husband, John, and found that she had a knack for creating good family/nanny matches. Her daughter, Suzanne, was the company’s first hire.

Over the years, the economy, family structures, and the job of placing nannies have evolved. When Annie’s Nannies first started, the company used a typewriter and everything was done on paper and cork boards. Suzanne played a key role in bringing technology into Annie’s Nannies so that the business could keep up with consumer demand and make the best matches between clients and household staff.

To help people manage their increasingly busy lives, Annie’s Nannies began placing on-call and temporary nannies in 1997 and added a household staffing category in 2002. Developing these new areas has made Annie’s Nannies a model for nanny and household staffing agencies across the US.

Today, the company is celebrating 30 years of matching professional, pre-screened nannies with families throughout the Puget Sound. Whether a family needs childcare, household support, postpartum support, or senior companion services, Annie’s Nannies can connect them with reliable and caring nannies, parent’s helpers, household managers, family assistants, postpartum doulas, newborn care specialists, personal assistants, and more.

In 2009, Annie’s Nannies received the Mayor’s Small Business Award for its contributions to the Seattle economy. The following year, the company won a small business technology grant from Microsoft. In 2013, Annie’s Nannies was voted the “Most Awesome Childcare Agency/Resource” in the Seattle area by readers of Red Tricycle.
