In 1998, husband and wife team Philip and Kiran Yocom launched Seniors Helping Seniors to help make life a little easier for the elderly. The company matches seniors who need help with seniors who want to help, providing an innovative, intra-generational companion service exclusively for senior citizens. Seniors Helping Seniors was born out of Kiran’s personal mission to care for those who cannot care for themselves. Prior to moving to the United States from India, Kiran worked with Mother Teresa for almost 15 years. Today, she serves as chairwoman of Seniors Helping Seniors, while husband Philip fulfills the roles of president and chief executive officer.
Since its inception, Seniors Helping Seniors has worked with numerous helpers and clients throughout the US. Over the years, the company has become a full-fledged and credible resource for older adults who want to stay in their own homes. For reasonable hourly rates, Seniors Helping Seniors provides a full range of non-medical home services that includes cooking, companionship, light housekeeping, transportation, yard work, house maintenance, and respite care. Senior helpers are available every day at any hour, even overnight.
Seniors Helping Seniors was started with the simple concept that seniors can help each other age better. Because the company’s helpers are also older adults, clients feel like they’re getting help from their friends. In fact, the seniors who receive help usually end up becoming lifelong friends with the seniors who assist them. Believing that those who give and those who receive benefit alike, the company personally matches clients with companions who will fit their needs, schedule, and personality. More than just about providing in-home services, Seniors Helping Seniors is about bringing joy and companionship back into the lives of the elderly.
The company now has about 200 locations nationwide since it began franchising in 2006.
